Moroccan Boycott Threatens Algeria Games
Morocco’s previous fun-and-games in Algeria with its faux pas played against its Foreign Minister may well put the brakes on more fun and games from its own soccer team.
Morocco is threatening to boycott the next African Nations Championship (CHAN) to be held in Algeria from January 13 to February 4, 2023 if the requirements of the competition are not respected by the Algerians, the state friendly Hespress reported on December 27th.
“After the misadventures of Moroccans in recent months during international events organized on Algerian soil, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) no longer intends to turn a blind eye” it editorializes in an article.
The “misadventures” were the poor treatment of Morocco’s foreign minister when he travelled to Algeria to attend an Arab League council at the end of October.
Ahead of the competition this time, the president of the Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, said at the meeting of the steering committee of the body, that Morocco will not take part in the African Championship of Nations organized in Algeria only if the specifications are respected.
