Tunisian film star resigns as UN ambassador over Gaza conflict
The World Food Program’s (WFP) ambassador resigned from her post over the UN agency’s stance on the Gaza conflict, reports AFP.
Tunisian, Hend Sabry, a leading figure in Arab cinema, chose to step down after 13 years as ambassador and asked the WFP leadership to support a ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave.
Sabry said that she left her post due to what she believes was the use of starvation as a weapon of war in Gaza where over 13,000 inhabitants have been killed since October 7.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, on November 22 she wrote, “With a heavy heart and deep sadness I have decided to step down from my role as WFP Goodwill Ambassador; a role that I have cherished and honoured for years.” .
