Blinken meets Morocco’s FM Bourita in Washington D.C.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken met his Moroccan counterpart Naser Bourita in Washington on October 2nd amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, according to Africa News via AP.
The two discussed developments in the region and Blinken told reporters that the US would continue attempts at de-escalating the current conflict.
Washington’s relationship with Rabat has improved notably since the US supported Morocco’s claim over Western Sahara in 2020 in exchange for Moroccan normalisation with Israel, while the recognition of the claim over Western Sahara was slammed by the region’s Polisario Front and Algeria.
