Sudan leader says no return to pre-war situation with RSF militia

Sudanese sovereign council leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan ruled out the possibility of a return to the pre-war situation with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia his army has been fighting for over 18 months.

According to Anadolu Ajensi he made the statement on December 31st in a televised speech published by Sudanese state television on the 69th anniversary of Sudan’s independence from British occupation and colonialism in 1956.

Burhan did however voice willingness “to engage in any genuine initiative that ends the war and ensures the safe return” of civilians to their homes.
