France launches artificial intelligence initiative with Morocco

France has launched an artificial intelligence initiative with Morocco and several other international partners aimed at developing systems to asses the social and environmental impact of AI.

According to Atalayar on 12 February, the project called ‘Current AI’ aims to raise $2.5bn over the next five years along with African partners Nigeria and Kenya, as well as Germany, Finland, Chile, Slovenia and Switzerland.

The move comes a ties between Morocco and France blossom, with expanding collaboration in tech following French recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara.
