Guinea-Bissau threatens to expel ECOWAS mission

Guinea-Bissau president Umaro Sissoco Embalo threatened to expel a mission from the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS), the political and economic bloc said on March 2nd according to Reuters.
Embalo’s opposition says his term should have expired last week, but the supreme court of justice ruled that it will continue until September 4th.
ECOWAS said it deployed a mission to help reach an understanding on how to conduct an election in 2025, but later said “the mission departed Bissau in the early morning of 1st March, following threats by H.E. Umaro Sissoco Embalo to expel it.”
