Jordan affirms support for Sudanese government

Jordan has rejected the idea of a parallel government in Sudan, describing the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) as undermining the country’s unity.
According to Anadolu Agency, on March 2nd Jordan’s foreign ministry spokesman Sufian Qudah reaffirmed his support for initiatives that will promote a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Sudan. Qudah said it was key to ensure Sudan’s security, stability, and sovereignty.
Jordan’s support came in response to RSF claims that they will establish a parallel government, opposing the current Sudanese government.
Egypt and Saudi Arabia have already expressed their rejection of a parallel government in Sudan.
On February 22nd, the Sudanese paramilitary group the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), as well as Sudanese political groups signed a political charter in Nairobi, Kenya, in order to form a parallel government.
Kenya was heavily criticised by the Sudanese government for its involvement, describing them as being part of a “conspiracy to establish a government” for the RSF.
Sudan has recalled their ambassador to Nairobi, Kamal Jabara, to protest against Kenya’s involvement in the discussions. As well as this they described Kenya’s actions as “irresponsible and hostile.”
However, Kenya has defended its role, arguing that hosting the meetings showcased their efforts in finding solutions to end the war in Sudan, coordinating the whole time with the United Nations and the African Union.
