Syria forms committee to start transition process

Syrian interim president Ahmed al-Sharah announced the formation of a committee to draft a constitutional declaration to lead the country’s transition, reported Asharq Al-Awsat on March 3rd.
The declaration comes three months after former ruler Al-Asad was overthrown by President Ahmed al-Sharah’s coalition HTS, ending the five decades-long family rule.
The committee of experts in charge of the declaration – that will serve as a “legal reference for the future constitution” – will include Kurdish journalist and human rights activist Bahia Mardini along with several Law scholars from Syrian Universities.
