HIV levels have soared in Ethiopia’s Tigray region following two years of war, with widespread sexual abuse and STD transmission.

Reported by AP News on March 26th, as many as 10% of women and girls between 15 and 49 were subjected to sexual abuse at the same time as Tigray’s health system was looted and destroyed resulting in a proliferation of sexual infections and disease.

Today, the HIV rate in Tigray is more than double the prewar average. The Trump administration’s decision to kill 83% of US Agency for International Development programs is globally worsening the situation.
