Hungary announced on April 3rd that it will break with the rest of the EU as it begins procedures for withdrawing from the world’s only permanent tribunal for war crimes and genocide, the International Criminal Court (ICC).

According to The National, the move comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visits Hungary, despite facing an ICC arrest warrant for war crimes related to the Gaza conflict.

The European Commission expressed regret over Hungary’s decision, while human rights groups called on EU leaders to pressure Hungary to arrest Netanyahu during his visit.
