According to Hespress, a Moroccan government friendly outlet, Morocco has officially launched phase two of construction for the Grand Stade Hassan II in Benslimane, as reported on May 2nd.

This landmark sports venue is expected to host key matches during the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-organise alongside Spain and Portugal.

A public call for bids has been issued through the National Agency for Public Facilities (ANEP), inviting both Moroccan and international firms to carry out the major structural works required for the project.

The tender includes a wide range of work packages, covering concrete structures, waterproofing, steel framing, flooring, suspended ceilings, carpentry, and painting.

The contract is estimated to be worth 3.2 billion dirhams, with the submission deadline set for 10 a.m. local time on June 10th.

This next phase follows the completion of excavation works, which were part of the first phase and awarded to the construction firm SGTM for 356 million dirhams.

Once complete, the Grand Stade Hassan II will have a seating capacity of more than 115,000 spectators, making it one of the largest stadiums in the world, and significantly enhancing Morocco’s sports infrastructure.

According to project documents, construction is expected to take 30 months from the date the official work order is issued, with projected completion by December 2027.

This timeline aligns with the target set by Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Moroccan Football Federation and head of the national World Cup organising committee.

The project is being managed by ANEP on behalf of SONARGES, Morocco’s national stadium agency.

In the event of bids from international companies, they must demonstrate experience in at least two major projects within the last decade: one being a stadium with a minimum of 40,000 seats, and another large-scale facility with a value of no less than 6 billion dirhams. This could include airports, hospitals, or commercial complexes.

Designed by a prominent British architectural firm, the stadium will be built on a 100-hectare site in the Casablanca-Settat region.

The design for the Grand Stade Hassan II features a vast, tent-like white roof, inspired by  seasonal festival culture in Morocco. In addition to the stadium, the complex will include a “green sports village”, entertainment zones, and will be connected to major highways and public transport networks.
