Rwanda and Congo submit peace proposal to end conflict

Both the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda have successfully signed a draft peace deal that could potentially help end the conflict in eastern Congo.
According to the Associated Press, the negotiations-brokered by the United States- have been described as an “important step” in the peace process by Massad Boulos, senior advisor to Donald Trump on Africa and the Middle East.
The move toward peace comes amid a series of escalations by the Rwandan-backed M23 rebel group in recent months, including the capture of the key city of Goma in January.
