Amidst a right-wing backlash, a vote on a US Congress bill that would punish boycotting Israel has been scrapped, reports Middle East Eye on May 6.

The vote on the controversial anti-boycott, divestment and sanctions bill, programmed for Monday, was confirmed to have been pulled by Congresswoman Majorie Taylor Greene in a post on X.

The bi-partisan bill, drafted by Republican Mike Lawler and Democrat Josh Gottheimer, has sought to criminalise boycotting Israel, however it has faced backlash from several Republicans in the “America first” camp, who claim it would pose a threat to free speech.
