Gaza convoy: Thousands rally across Maghreb for aid mission

On June 8th, a convoy joined by thousands of volunteers departed from Algeria, heading towards Tunisia and then Gaza in a major effort to challenge the ongoing siege, according to Middle East Monitor.
The convoy — which will be joined by other groups along the way from Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, and through the Rafah border — is carrying vital supplies, including water, food, and medical aid.
In a recent statement, the Coordinating Committee for Joint Action for Palestine in Tunisia declared that the participants are set to arrive in Gaza “to deliver messages of solidarity and aid to the people of Gaza.”
The convoy includes political figures, human rights activists, lawyers, doctors, journalists, youth organisations, and other public figures. On May 31st, Wael Nawar, spokesperson for the Caravan of Steadfastness initiative, announced that thousands of people from across the Maghreb had registered to join, confirming over 7,000 participants.
“The convoy will include delegations from Mauritania, Morocco, and Algeria, as well as thousands from Tunisia and Libya. We will head directly to Cairo, then to Al-Arish in Egypt, and finally to Rafah [in southern Gaza],” Nawar said, according to the Palestinian Information Centre.
The initiative has also gained widespread support from various Tunisian organisations, including the Tunisian General Labour Union, the Tunisian Journalists Syndicate, the National Bar Association of Tunisia, the Tunisian League for the Defence of Human Rights, the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights, the Tunisian Medical Council, and the Tunisian Organisation of Young Doctors.
