Libya: local election progress halted mere days after starting

Libya’s High National Elections Commission (HNEC) has confirmed that authorities in eastern Libya have completely suspended the distribution of voter cards in Benghazi, Sabha, and Sirte according to the Libya Observer on July 2nd.
The HNEC have had no explanation from the parallel government in eastern Libya’s Ministry of Local Government as to why voter card distribution was halted in these areas.
The head of the HNEC confirmed on June 25th that after many delays the voting in municipal elections would take place by mid-August, and therefore voter cards began being distributed on June 28th.
