Britons sign petition to stop football match with Israeli team
Over 26,000 Britons have signed a petition to stop a football match between the UK’s Aston Villa football club and the Maccabi Tel Aviv of Israel from taking place in Birmingham in the UK, according to the Middle East Eye and agencies on November 5th.
The petition, initiated by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), has called on the Football Association (FA) and European football’s governing body, UEFA, to call off the match scheduled for November 6th.
The Israeli club allegedly has links to Israel’s conflict with Gaza, including dispatching care packages to soldiers. Maccabi Tel Aviv fans have been banned from attending the match over security concerns, although the UK government was working to overturn the ban.
