Tanzania: Internet access partially restored amid election violence
Tanzania’s government has announced that internet access will be partially restored after a six-day shutdown related to post-election violence, according to Africa News and AP on November 4th.
However, sharing images and videos that may cause panic could result in “treason charges,” according to a message received by mobile phone users on November 3rd.
Protests over the October 29th election have killed at least 700 people, although information is difficult to verify as President Samia Suluhu Hassan has blocked foreign journalists from entering the country. Opposition candidates were also banned from standing for election.
More to follow.
