Angola to mark 50 years of independence

Angola will celebrate 50 years of independence from Portugal on November 11th, according to Africa News and agencies on November 10th.

The Central African nation declared independence from its occupying power on November 11th, 1975, after a 13-year war. However, the country continues to face economic and political turmoil, including being added to an EU blacklist over accusations of money laundering and financing terrorism.

Fuel prices were increased by 30% in July, sparking protests and a violent crackdown by the authorities. The World Bank has estimated that since 2018, around one-third of Angolans have lived below the international poverty line of $2.15.
