Morocco: booming solar energy sector facing challenges

A new report on solar energy in Morocco highlights technical and financial challenges impacting its development, reports Hespress on 28th November. Morocco had introduced its solar energy projects as groundbreaking, and it received support from a variety of investors.

However, the report  by two international agencies  reveal the significant technical issues and delays faced by the Noor power stations in Ouarzazate and Midelt.

In particular, the Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) technology used is expensive, forcing the station to switch to photovoltaic for the last phase of the project. Storing energy has also proved to be an issue, with the report advising Morocco to adapt to more recent technologies.
