Coup attempt in Benin: France provided support to authorities
Benin received logistical and surveillance support from France during a failed coup attempt against President Patrice Talon, according to a report by France 24 via AFP on 10th December.
A close aide to French President Macron confirmed that he had led a “coordination effort” with other West African leaders to protect Benin’s President. Talon later confirmed that the situation was under control after the army’s swift response.
Benin, a former French colony, remains one of the key countries within the ‘Françafrique’ sphere, maintaining close cultural and economic ties with France.
