Somalia rejects Israeli recognition of Somaliland
Somalia has denounced Israel’s recognition of breakaway region Somaliland as a “deliberate attack on its sovereignty”, according to France 24 on December 27th.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu formally recognised Somaliland’s independence on December 26th, acknowledging its “right to self-determination”.
Somaliland declared its independence in 1991 and has since looked for international recognition; Israel became the first state to lend its support.
