Tunisia launches major solar plant to boost energy security

Tunisia has established its largest solar power plant in Kairouan, a facility exceeding 100 megawatts of capacity, utilising the funds provided by the African Development Bank (AfDB), as reported in Maghrebi Week on December 29th. 

The AfDB backed the project with $25 million, helping build the country’s first solar plant that will generate enough electricity for approximately 43,000 homes and cutting CO₂ emissions by 117,000 tonnes annually.

The project will reduce reliance on imported fuel and support Tunisia’s goal of sourcing 35% of its power from renewable energy by 2030.
