Qatar overtakes neighbouring states for tourism

Qatar has overtaken Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates in Gulf tourism, gaining the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) Tourism Capital 2026 title, according to Travel and Tour World on January 2nd.

The title comes against the backdrop of Qatar’s emergence as a centre for commerce, trade and culture on the back of it hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Doha is also aiming to increase both its role in the GCC, and its own role in global and sustainable tourism. Qatar’s transport infrastructure has reportedly heavily contributed to its upsurge in tourism.
