Death of army chief highlights political tension in Libya
The death of senior Libyan military figure, General Haddad, has intensified political tensions in Libya, triggering protests in Misrata and renewed debate over the country’s civil-military balance, according to Maghrebi Week on January 5th.
Anger has focused on Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah’s government, which militia groups and local leaders accuse of a weak and opaque response, fuelling broader frustration with the Government of National Unity.
While revolutionary brigades backed the protests, some officials dismissed conspiracy claims, warning the incident is being politically exploited amid Libya’s fragile governance crisis.
