European clubs show interest in Moroccan player Brahim Diaz
Many European clubs have shown interest in Moroccan player Brahim Diaz, reports the moroccan government friendly North Africa Post, on January 7th.
The 26 year old football player left Manchester City in 2019 and looks increasingly likely to move away from his current club, Real Madrid, too with clubs like Arsenal showing serious interest in him. Arsenal has reportedly made a €500 million offer to Real Madrid, as Diaz could bring a technical quality to the team.
Diaz’s energy and attacking intelligence makes him an attractive signing target for Arsenal football club in order to strengthen their team. According to The Africa Report on 9th January, Diaz has featured in 18 matches during his time at Real Madrid across both La Liga and the Champions League, playing for 484 minutes and scoring one goal in this time. Abdsalam Ouaddou, a former international player and the current coach of the South African team the Orlando Pirates, claims that “Brahim Diaz has clearly established himself as a leader through his play, his charisma, and his character”.
Throughout this Afcon, Diaz has been a consistent goal scorer from the very first match. During Morocco’s opening game against Comoros, he scored one of the winning goals along with his teammate Ayoub El Kaabi in the second half of the match. The opening game was played in Morocco’s new Moulay Abdallah stadium in Rabat after the tournament’s opening ceremony, attended by the Crown Prince Moulay Hassan.
Diaz also scored the winning goal in Morocco’s recent game against Tanzania, scoring the crucial goal in the second half of the game. This win took the Moroccan team one step closer to the possibility of playing its first Afcon semi-final since 2004, when they were defeated by Tunisia, and one step closer to winning the overall tournament, which the team haven’t won since 1979. This win rounds off Morocco’s recent football achievements including winning the Arab Cup in 2025, held in Qatar after defeating Jordan 3-2 in the final game.
Morocco’s next game will be against Nigeria, on January 14th.
