Hamas commander killed during Israeli strike
Israel conducted an airstrike in central Gaza on January 15th, hitting a house west of Deir al Balah, causing the deaths of five people, according to hospital officials, Africanews via Euronews reported.
Hamas said one of those killed was Mahmoud al Houli, a commander in its armed wing, the Al Qassam Brigades. The group defined the attack as an assassination and claimed Israel was accelerating tensions during an already fragile ceasefire.
By the morning of January 16th, residents had returned to the damaged neighbourhood, picking through the rubble of the collapsed building and gathering whatever belongings they could salvage.
