The government in Sudan announced the recovery of 570 ancient artefacts, which were looted during the war, in a step to safeguard the country’s cultural and historical heritage, according to Maghrebi Week on January 19th.

Many museums were stripped bare and damaged by the RSF, and some of its contents were attempted to be sold abroad. Sudan has been collaborating with UNESCO and Interpol since 2025 to recover some of these artefacts and repatriate them to Sudan.

The RSF has been accused of carrying out ethnically motivated attacks, which some officials in Sudan called “obliteration of identity” of the Sudanese people.
