Libya’s Public Prosecutor has ordered the detention of two members of a migrant smuggling gang operating along the Al-Khoms coast, as reported by The Libya Observer on January 20.

The group reportedly specialized in building boats for irregular migration departures from Celine beaches to Europe.

These developments unfold against a backdrop of record Mediterranean interceptions and returns from Libya, where thousands of migrants are stopped or returned as irregular maritime departures surge.
