Sweden publicly backed Morocco’s proposed autonomy plan for Western Sahara on January 21st, as support for the proposal increases amongst the international community, according to The Arab Weekly plus agencies.
The Swedish Foreign Ministry referenced United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797 as a “credible foundation” for discussions attempting to end the ongoing regional conflict. Resolution 2797 would grant the Western Sahara limited self-governance under Moroccan sovereignty.
An increasing number of countries are voicing support for Morocco’s autonomy plan, including Spain, France and Germany, alongside the United States and various countries in Africa and the Middle East.
