Gazan poet hopes his work can bridge Palestinian-Israeli gap
The Gazan poet Husam Maarouf has suggested that his book of bilingual Hebrew-Arabic poetry intends to bridge the gap between Palestinians and Israelis, as the Gaza war continues, as reported by Maghrebi Week on January 26th.
Maarouf asserted that through his poetry he “can reach the Other and get him to know me, who I am, how I live, how the war destroyed me, how it killed every pleasure in life.”
He also suggested that writing poetry was a necessity for him because something in him “broke every day.” He added: “I had to gather its shards in words before they turned into ashes.”
