The junta in Burkina Faso has declared a ban on all political parties, as reported by Maghrebi Week on February 2.

The leader of the Burkinabé military junta, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has faced growing criticism, both for policies aimed at concentrating power in the hands of the junta and for the violent repression of critics and potential political opponents.

Criticism has also emerged on the military front, as the jihadist insurgency in the northern regions shows no signs of abating, despite the fact that the first promise made after the military government took power in Ouagadougou concerned the immediate resolution of the conflict.
