The United States President, Donald Trump, has issued an executive order warning that additional 25 percent tariffs could be imposed on any country conducting business with Iran, as reported by Ean Libya on February 7th.

The White House order states that “additional tariffs may be imposed on goods imported into the United States and produced in any country that buys, imports, or obtains goods or services directly or indirectly from Iran.”

The decree comes as the US Treasury Department has added 15 companies and two people to its Iran‑related sanctions list, which now includes entities registered in the UAE, Turkey, Georgia, China, and several other countries.

The announcement comes following the conclusion of the latest round of indirect talks between Iran and the US in the Omani capital, Muscat, where Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said the atmosphere had been promising, while mentioning that “there is a great lack of trust in this period, which is a challenge to the negotiations.”

The Pentagon also stated in its National Defence Strategy that the US believes Iran may seek to acquire nuclear weapons, potentially by refusing to engage in negotiations over its nuclear program, and that Tehran intends to rebuild its military capabilities.

In a separate move, Trump has lifted the additional 25 percent tariff on Indian imports, over New Delhi’s cessation of buying Russian oil. The new decree stated that “from February 7, 2026, goods coming from India will not be subject to any additional duties.”

In February 2025, Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced plans to expand bilateral trade to over $500 billion by the end of the decade, amid ongoing trade tensions that started last year following India’s purchase of Russian oil and the US slapping heavy tariffs on Indian imports.
