Talks between Libyan and Saudi military leaders were held at the World Defence Show in Riyadh, as reported by Ean Libya and agencies on February 8th.

Lieutenant General Dr Salah Al‑Din Al‑Nimroush, the Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Army, along with his accompanying delegation, met his Saudi counterpart, Lieutenant General Fayyad Al‑Ruwaili, at the sidelines of the exhibition’s third edition, which runs from February 8th to 12th.

During their meeting, the two sides discussed the exhibition’s activities and reviewed the newest defence systems, weapons and equipment presented by leading international manufacturers participating in this year’s event.

They also examined a range of advanced solutions in weapon systems, surveillance technologies, military communications and smart platforms, areas that reflect the rapid evolution of modern defence industries and the growing demand for integrated, high‑tech capabilities.

Al‑Nimroush praised the high level of organisation at the exhibition, describing it as a key international platform for showcasing defence innovation.

He highlighted the significance of hosting nearly 1,000 companies specialising in defence and security from around the world, noting that such broad participation underscores the event’s global relevance and its role in shaping future military cooperation.

Both sides expressed their aspiration to further strengthen cooperation between Libya and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in ways that serve shared interests and contribute to regional security and stability.

Al‑Ruwaili emphasised the depth of the longstanding ties between the two countries and expressed his appreciation for the spirit of partnership that guides their relations. He also conveyed his wishes for “more goodness, stability and prosperity” for the Libyan people.

Ties between the countries have continued to develop, despite Libya being accused of funnelling UAE-linked military support to the Rapid Support Forces, a paramilitary group in Sudan, which has faced allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The meeting underscored a mutual commitment to expanding defence collaboration at a time when regional security challenges continue to evolve, such as the UN arms embargo imposed on Libya, and reaffirmed the importance of sustained dialogue between the military institutions of both countries.
