Morocco secures seat in African Union Peace and Security Council
Morocco has secured a seat on the African Union’s Peace and Security Council (PSC) for the 2026-2028 term, joining Algeria in the Council, reported Moroccan government-friendly Yabiladi on February 11th.
Morocco’s candidacy received 34 votes, surpassing the two-thirds majority required. Since joining the African Union in 2017, Morocco has been elected to the council three times. Algeria had previously sought to block Rabat’s bid by backing a Polisario Front candidacy, which was withdrawn in favour of supporting Libya for the North Africa seat.
Morocco is also eyeing the United Nations Security Council seat for the African group in the 2027-2028 term.
