Morocco has launched a new aerospace facility worth more than 3 billion dirhams to produce aircraft landing gear, as reported by APA News on February 16th. The new Safran Landing Systems complex is located in Nouaceur near Casablanca.

The project represents an investment of about 280 million euros and covers seven hectares of land. Around 26,000 square metres will be used for advanced manufacturing.

The facility will focus on producing, assembling and maintaining landing gear systems, mainly for the Airbus A320 aircraft model, one of the most widely used planes in the world.

Officials said Morocco was chosen for the project because of its stable economy and strong industrial base with recent statistics showing Morocco’s economy is expected to grow by 4.9% in 2026, according to the IMF.

Safran executives also pointed to the availability of skilled local workers as a key reason for building the plant in the country. The plant is expected to create 500 direct jobs. It will also include training programmes to prepare Moroccan technicians to handle the strict safety and certification standards required in the aviation sector.

Industry and Trade Minister Ryad Mezzour said the project strengthens Morocco’s role in the global aerospace industry. He noted that working on complex landing gear systems places the country higher in the international supply chain. Moreover, the Nador West Med port will soon be operational, equipping the country for global trade with modern infrastructure that can compete at an international level.

By the end of 2025, Morocco’s aerospace exports had reached 29 billion dirhams, supporting around 25,000 jobs across the sector, according to government figures.

The new site will run on decarbonised energy, in line with global efforts to reduce emissions. Officials said this will help Morocco remain competitive while meeting environmental standards expected by major aircraft manufacturers.

The launch of the new Safran Landing Systems plant marks another step in Morocco’s plan to expand its high-value manufacturing industries and attract more foreign investment in advanced sectors such as aerospace.
