FIFA is considering using Morocco’s national youth talent development program as a model for other African countries, as reported by Moroccan government friendly North Africa Post on February 23rd.

This is following a series of evaluation visits by its delegations, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has announced.

The endorsement comes after two working visits during which FIFA representatives assessed the structure and performance of Morocco’s youth training system firsthand. Delegates toured academies at several leading clubs, including Wydad Athletic Club, Raja Club Athletic, Fath Union Sport and Renaissance Sportive de Berkane.

According to the FRMF, FIFA officials praised the organisation, scope and quality of youth development initiatives at each institution, describing Morocco’s approach as a potential benchmark for the continent.

To build on this momentum, FIFA has scheduled a dedicated conference in April aimed at enhancing the training capabilities of Moroccan coaches and development staff. The event forms part of FIFA’s wider international talent development programme across Africa, designed to strengthen grassroots football structures and professional pathways.

In addition to technical collaboration, FIFA has pledged financial backing for selected clubs involved in the national programme. The funding, which will be distributed through the FRMF, will focus on modernising infrastructure and upgrading training facilities in line with each club’s development strategy.

The recognition comes at a significant moment for Moroccan football, as the country prepares to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup. Establishing a sustainable pipeline of homegrown talent remains central to Morocco’s long-term football ambitions.

FIFA’s interest in replicating the Moroccan model signals growing international confidence in the Kingdom’s investment in grassroots infrastructure — and positions the country as a potential leader in youth football development across Africa.
