Morocco and Netherlands tighten judicial cooperation
Morocco and the Netherlands have reinforced their judicial net and cooperation through internationally coordinated operations targeting suspects wanted for international crime cases between February 23rd and 24th, according to Yabiladi and agencies on February 25th.
The latest development concerns the extradition of a Dutch national suspected of involvement in a shooting that took place on February 21st, 2025, in a busy shopping district in the centre of Rotterdam. The attack left a man seriously injured after two suspects allegedly exited a vehicle and blindly opened fire.
The suspect, arrested in Morocco, was extradited to Dutch authorities after the completion of all legal formalities and related procedures. The suspect was presented before a magistrate on February 24th, 2026, who extended his detention, as requested by the Dutch Public Prosecution Service, while a second suspect is still at large with an international arrest warrant.
On February 23rd, on another joint international operation, Moroccan police arrested a 54 year old Dutch national in Martil, wanted under an international arrest warrant issued by Dutch judicial authorities.
Interpol has confirmed that the suspect was wanted for a “Red Notice” distributed at the request of the National Central Bureau in The Hague. The suspect is accused of defrauding 135 investors between 2022 and 2025, allegedly embezzling €5,799,000 and laundering more than €470,000, as shown in the preliminary investigation results.
The National Central Bureau of Morocco (Interpol Rabat), operating under the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN), formally notified its Dutch counterpart as required by Interpol communication protocols, starting the second extradition procedure in accordance with the Extradition Treaty between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Kingdom of the Netherlands (1996) and in conformity with Morocco’s Law No. 43-06 on extradition.
In accordance with the Moroccan Code of Criminal Procedure, this extradition request is still subject to review by the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation, which will issue an advisory opinion before the final decision can taken by the Head of Government.
