Tunisia: court case against factory pollution dismissed
A Tunisian court has dismissed a case against a chemical factory accused of being responsible for dozens of intoxications in the city of Gabès, reports Jeune Afrique via AFP on February 27th.
Local communities have been protesting against the pollution and environmental damage for several years, and lawyers had demanded the factory’s closure.
The large industrial complex, which produces phosphate-based fertilizer, is managed by Tunisia’s GCT (Tunisian Chemical Group).
