Five Chadian soldiers were killed, and at least 12 people were wounded after conflicts in Tine, a frontier town in Sudan’s northern Darfur, urging Chad on February 23rd to close its border with Sudan indefinitely, as reported by Maghrebi Week on March 2nd.

N’Djamena said the closure follows repeated incursions and violations by Sudanese armed actors inside Chadian territory, applying its right to respond under Article 51 of the UN Charter.

The fighting reportedly erupted on February 22nd after the RSF said it seized Tine following battles near the border, during broader regional tensions linked to Uganda hosting RSF commander Mohamed Dagalo for talks on February 21st.
