Guinea has now dissolved a total of 40 political parties, including three of the major political opposition groups in the West African nation, according to France 24 via AFP on March 7th.

The move has sparked fears about the nation’s political landscape. The dissolution was made through a decree.

The dissolution was purportedly intended to reorganise the nation’s political landscape and ensure that all political parties met the legal and administrative requirements.

Some of the political parties that have been affected by the dissolution are some of the major political opposition groups in the West African nation. These include the Union of Democratic Forces of Guinea (UFDG), which is led by the exiled political leader, Cellou Dalein Diallo. Additionally, the Rally of the People of Guinea (RPG), which is led by former president Alpha Condé has also been dissolved, as well as the Union of Republican Forces (UFR).

Guinea is currently under military rule after Mamady Doumbouya staged a coup in September 2021, ousting President Alpha Condé. Since then, the country has been under military rule, with the junta agreeing to oversee the transition back to civilian rule. However, political reforms and the transition process have been subject to several delays.

This move by the junta in Guinea has come at a time when there are tensions between the government and opposition political parties. This is because several of these political parties have expressed concerns about the political activities in the country.

This move by the junta in Guinea has also arrived at a time when there are concerns about the political arena in the country. This is because come analysts would believe the dissolution of several political parties in the country could reduce the opportunities for political influence in the country as it seeks to transition back to civilian rule.
