UN Security Council condemns Iranian attacks on Gulf states
The UN Security Council has condemned Iran’s missile and drone attacks on Gulf states and Jordan, Middle East Eye reported on March 12th.
The measure was passed with 13 votes in favour, and none against; Russia and China abstained. The resolution, introduced by Bahrain, condemned the attacks and called on Iran to halt strikes on neighbouring states. It also criticised threats against shipping and attempts to disrupt traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
The resolution did not mention the US-Israeli strikes on Iran prior to Tehran’s response, leading to criticism from Tehran’s ambassador. A separate draft resolution tabled by Russia calling on all sides to cease hostilities was rejected.
