Egypt imposes bread price caps amid rising fuel costs
Egypt introduced price caps on bread sold in private bakeries as authorities seek to limit rising food prices, Africanews reported on 13 March.
The trade ministry said bakeries must clearly display bread prices and weights on storefronts. The measure aims to prevent excessive pricing and protect consumers as living costs increase.
The move comes after the government raised fuel prices earlier this month, adding pressure on household costs as Egypt faces mounting economic strain linked to regional tensions. Rising prices have also fuelled political debate inside Egypt, including a petition calling for the expulsion of the U.S. and Israeli ambassadors.
