Libya joins Arab diplomatic push in Paris amid regional escalation
Libya joined an emergency Arab diplomatic effort in Paris aimed at building a coordinated response to escalating regional tensions and attacks on the sovereignty of several Arab states, as reported by The Libya Observer and agencies on march 12th.
Libya’s chargé d’affaires in France took part in the meeting of the Council of Arab Ambassadors held in Paris at the headquarters of the Arab League mission. This meeting formed part of another round of consultations among Arab diplomatic missions seeking to align political and security positions at a moment of growing instability across the region.
In that sense, the Paris talks were not merely procedural. They reflected a broader Arab push to a unified diplomatic position as regional escalation continues to test the coherence of the Arab system and its ability to project a unified position to international partners.
During the discussions, Libya reaffirmed its support for Arab states that have come under attack and stressed the need to prioritise dialogue, negotiation and de-escalation over military confrontation.
That position fits a wider Libyan diplomatic line that has increasingly framed regional crises through the language of sovereignty and collective stability. Rather than preparing for further escalation, Tripoli’s message in Paris was that the region requires political coordination instead of another cycle of pure confrontation.
The ambassadors also reviewed mechanisms for implementing Arab League Resolution 9241, adopted on March 8th, 2026, which calls on Arab diplomatic groups, ambassadorial councils and League missions worldwide to urgently communicate the resolution’s content to concerned capitals and international organisations.
The meeting also included outreach to France, with the French foreign ministry’s MENA director briefed on the Arab League’s position. Arab diplomats expressed appreciation for France’s supportive stance and renewed calls for sustained international efforts to restore stability in affected states and advance a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, including on Palestine, on the basis of the Arab Peace Initiative and recognised international resolutions.
