Attack on Burkina Faso police detachment kills dozens
Dozens have been killed in an attack on a Burkina Faso police detachment in the Yamba district on March 6th, as reported by Maghrebi Week on March 16th.
Reportedly, the attack targeted officers from the Mobile Intervention Unit Group (GUMI) stationed in Yamba, roughly 20 kilometres from the eastern Fada N’Gourma region; at least 30 people are believed to be dead, although an official death toll has not been released.
Although it is unclear if a jihadist group was responsible for the attack, the al-Qaeda affiliated Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM) maintains a presence in the region.
