Guinea cracks down on suspected jihadist networks
Guinean authorities have launched a crackdown on suspected networks linked to the al-Qaeda-affiliated Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (GSIM), as reported by Africa News and agencies on March 23rd.
Security forces carried out arrests and launched investigations targeting individuals suspected of supporting or facilitating the group’s activities; officials said the operation was part of efforts to prevent the spread of jihadist violence into coastal West African states.
The move comes as GSIM and other Islamist armed groups have reportedly expanded operations beyond the Sahel, which has raised concerns about broader regional security.
