International companies tighten grip on Libya’s resources
KBR, an American engineering and services company, announced it had been awarded a contract by Zallaf Exploration, Production and Refining of Oil and Gas Company to provide project management and technical services for the South Refinery Project in Ubari, in southwestern Libya, according to Libya Gazette on March 23rd.
The agreement with KBR reflects the broader reopening of Libya’s oil and energy market, announced by NOC on February 11th.
The presence of such large international investors in Libya’s energy sector, however, raises the prospect of future challenges.
