Ex-Algerian minister says US pushing Western Sahara settlement

A former Algerian minister said the United States is using political and diplomatic pressure to push for a settlement on Western Sahara, Maghrebi Week reported on 30 March.

He said recent efforts in Washington, including moves to designate the Polisario Front as a terrorist organisation, were part of a broader strategy targeting Algeria.

The comments come amid renewed discussions on the long-running dispute, as Morocco promotes an autonomy plan while Algeria backs the Polisario Front’s bid for independence.
