Tunisia defends voluntary migrant returns as pressure grows
Tunisia defended its voluntary return policy for irregular migrants, saying it remains the preferred alternative to forced deportations, Maghrebi Week reported on 30 March.
Officials said the approach aims to manage migration flows while responding to pressure from European countries to take back nationals accused of crimes, particularly in Germany.
The comments come as Mediterranean crossings continue despite increased patrols, with UN data showing a rise in deaths and missing migrants along the route.
