DR Congo festival highlights women’s role in peace efforts
Women in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo held a peace festival in Goma on March 30th to promote reconciliation and highlight the impact of conflict on civilians, Maghrebi Week reported on April 6th.
The Musika na Kipaji festival drew crowds of around 3,000 people, with activists, artists and community leaders using music, dance and discussions to call for an end to violence.
Organisers said the initiative aimed to give women a voice in a region affected by ongoing conflict and displacement, which can disproportionately affect women, such as access to healthcare.
