IMF: Morocco’s World Cup gains depend on controlling costs
Morocco’s economic gains from hosting the 2030 World Cup will depend on efficient public spending and strict cost control, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has said, as reported by the Moroccan government-friendly Yabiladi and agencies on April 6th.
The IMF said infrastructure investment of nearly 12% of GDP annually could boost growth, but warned that cost overruns and low efficiency would limit the benefits while increasing public debt.
It added that high import costs and financing pressures could further erode domestic economic benefits.
